Organic Insecticide in Your Garden
Consider using organic insecticide as an option for dealing with problems with pests in your garden. You can find organic insecticide in many garden supply stores nowadays. It is, however, important that you buy the correct product which will control the pests that are causing trouble for your plants.
If you are practising organic gardening it will mean not killing off any more insects than you really need to. Of course you wouldn’t want to buy the type of commercial chemical insecticides that would kill virtually every six legged creature in the garden. Some of these insects that would be killed are useful, such as ladybugs which will feed on your aphid pests. Useful and beautiful too. Remember also that butterflies are insects.
For this reason, many gardeners prefer to avoid insecticides and use other methods for controlling pests in the garden.
For soil-based pests, the best method of control is to rotate your plants so that the plant the pests feed on is not in the same place year after year. Insects are easily confused, especially those that live in the soil. This is often enough to prevent them from becoming established and numerous.
]]>
However, if you have reached the stage of considering organic insecticide then it’s probably too late for prevention. You will need to look for other methods of controlling pests. The best ways are those that target just the specific pest that you are having trouble with. That way, you will not kill off beneficial and friendly insects that contribute to the natural food chain in your garden.
Many pests are repelled by garlic. For this reason, gardeners often plant garlic around their other crops. It is especially effective this way against red spider mite and the borer beetles that attack fruit trees.
You can also use garlic in sprays. Simply crush garlic cloves into water and spray the mixture directly onto your plants. This will keep off many of the pests that like to eat vegetables and flowers.
Soap solutions are well known to be effective against aphids and other small flies that attack roses and similar flowering plants. A soap solution spray can also prevent slugs from eating your flowers.
Against slugs and snails, you can either use salt or beer. Salt solution sprayed onto plants will often keep off these pests in the same way that garlic repels other pests. You can also make traps containing beer. Place a flat container of beer into the ground so that the rim is at ground level and the slugs can easily access the beer and fall in. As far as we know, they will die happy.
Boric acid is a common household product that can be used against many garden pests. It is also known as boracic acid, borates or borax. It is effective enough that it is used in many commercial pesticides, but it is a naturally occurring mineral a little like salt.
Boric acid can be used as a powder against ants and similar crawling insects including roaches, ticks and fleas, beetles, earwigs and crickets. It also has anti fungal properties so it can be used against fungal diseases on plants, molds and mildew. Like salt, it can kill slugs and snails.
Boric acid can be toxic in high quantities. For safety, it is better not to use this organic insecticide on ripe fruit or on plants that children or pets will eat or lick.
These natural repellents and ways of targeting specific pests are the most desirable way of dealing with garden pests while keeping friendly insects safe.

The Gecko’s Parade
Far from the paved streets and many miles down a dusty dirt road sat an abandoned farm house. The weeds had grown so high the once traveled driveway could not be seen at all. Tall oak trees still shaded the vacant home and flowers once planted in love still poked their heads up to display splashes of color here and there. Apple trees still produced yellow and red apples for the local wasp and bees to fight over. Tall pear trees stood stately with most of the yellow pears near the top. As time passed all the fruits fell to the ground to be eaten by the local critters. Occasionally children that lived nearby would fill their bags with the luscious morsels and carry some home for the rest of the family.
An elderly couple had lived in this quaint spot for nearly fifty years. Their possessions still sat inside waiting for some family member to come and discover them. Curtains still hung from the windows and the porch swing moved gently as the warm winds blew. The front steps that once were painted a bluish gray were worn by sun and rain. The rails were no longer strong but rotting from the ground up. Ivy grew along the porch and up the side of the house making a wonderful home for birds, insects and small lizards. This wonderful old house had been the home of the Gecko’s for decades. Even when the elderly couple sat in the rocking chair or in the swing they could see the tiny fellows scampering about taking care of business as usual.
“Hey come on guys we have work to do. It is almost time for our yearly parade and we haven’t done anything about it yet. So get up off your tails and lets get a move on. All the other animals are busy working on theirs. We don’t want to be the last ones again this year!” Exclaimed Arnold. He stood upright with his hands upon his hips and his voice was scratchy. His big eyes sparkled in the sunshine but there was definitely a scowl on his face.
“I’m coming as fast as I can. It is not easy climbing down this ivy with a load of stuff on my back. I’ve seen the time when I could scoot much faster than most around here but time as taken its toll on this ole body of mine.” Priscilla replied. She was all out of breath and clearly out of sorts for having to carry such a heavy load all by herself.
“What is wrong with the younglings around here? Can’t you get some of these strong-legged fellows to help out with all the supplies or must I take care of that too?” She snorted loudly.
“I suppose I’ll have to get a switch and go beat the bushes to wake them all up. This is what happens when they stay up till all hours of the night. I still think we need to have a curfew around here. Maybe then we could get them out of the sack before noon!” Arnold answered all in a huff. “What is this world coming too?”
“I’ll put this stuff down here on the swing and go see if I can light a fire under some of their hind ends.” Priscilla puffed as she made her way back up the vine. It was very clear she meant business about getting some help and get it right away.
It wasn’t long until the ivy began moving with Gecko’s. There were green ones, red ones, orange ones, yellow ones and some with spots all making their way to the porch.
“Praise the Lord!” Arnold shouted as he waved his hands in the air. “I do believe this parade is about to be put together. Last year the fire ants took the show but this year we are going to be spectacular. Whew! It just takes my breath away to see such a kaleidoscope of colors. We have one week to get this show on the road so everyone better listen up. If we lose this year there will be an eight o’clock curfew and I mean exactly what I am saying.” He preached vigorously.
Within minutes the ceiling was covered with colored lizards. Some were purple, blue, pink, black and of course the lime green ones people see most often. The Gecko’s feet have the ability to adhere to the ceiling with ease. Many have special toe pads which enable them to climb smooth areas, vertical surfaces and even cross indoor ceilings with ease. They were scampering down the wall as if it were nothing at all. The air was filled with their short chirping sounds. It was music to Arnold’s ears and he was so please his smile spread clear across his face. Since Gecko’s have no eyelids Arnold used a special transparent membrane to lick his eyes to keep them clean and moist. He was overcome with emotion as he watched all the Gecko’s spring into action.
The Gecko’s worked all day every day getting everything ready for the big show. At the crack of dawn on Saturday morning, Arnold and Priscilla began lining up everyone. As far as the eye could see animals of all sorts began marching in the grand parade. Each group had high hopes of winning the award for best display. The frogs sprang into action twirling and jumping to the sound of the music. Turtles moved slowly but with snails stuck on their backs.. Their long necks moved side to side and their faces were full of smiles. Butterflies flew like small airplanes above all the fire ants.
Grasshoppers stacked themselves on top of each other and held on for dear life as they hopped along. Spiders big and small sped along behind the wasp trying very hard not to pounce upon one for a snack. Beetles danced about waving fuzzy plumes from the tall grass. Snakes slithered along, coiled themselves up and jumped as if attacking its prey. Rabbits hopped along throwing petals from flowers along the way. Crickets rubbed their legs together making their unique sounds. Squirrels waved their tails and chirped as loud as they could while tossing nuts to the critters on the sides. Mosquito’s buzzed above the squirrels tails in circles and honey bees did acrobatic dives in the air. Ladybugs sat pristinely upon the caterpillar’s back.
The birds of all kinds flew above all the others singing a melody only heard once a year in the parade. At the end of the parade rolled a carriage made of feathers and drawn by four mice. Sitting on the carriage dressed in spectacular colors sat the tiny hummingbird. Following behind the carriage was the most glorious display of color ever seen under the heavens. All the Gecko’s covered the ground with an awesome sheet of color. They bowed their heads gracefully to all the animals on the sidelines. Then lifting their tiny heads they all began to sing.
You Are My Sunshine
My only sunshine.
You make me happy
When skies are gray.
You’ll never know, friends,
How much we love you.
Please don’t take our sunshine away
Each Gecko carried a sunflower and waved it in the air as they repeated the chorus. It was a song they had heard the old lady who lived in the house sing for forty some years. Because of the Gecko’s the song can still be heard at least one day each year. Needless-to-say the Gecko’s won the award for being the most creative and the most colorful group in the parade. There was no curfew that year!

Baby Girl Bedding – Great Themes For Your Nursery
If you are expecting a new little girl, no doubt you are excited about her coming into your life. While you probably can’t wait until she arrives, you also will want to make sure that you are prepared before the due date. One of the most important things to get ready is the baby room, and you’ll want to pick out beautiful bedding and matching accessories for the perfect nursery. Lucky for you, there are plenty of themes available; in fact, there are so many that you may find it difficult to pick out the right one. So, if you need a few ideas for inspiration, here are some great themes to consider using for a girl’s nursery.
Designs By Laura Ashley
If you are looking for great baby girl bedding, you may want to consider the bedding designs of Laura Ashley – a perennial favorite and afforadably priced, too. There are a variety of colors and patterns that you can choose from, mainly focused around beautiful pastels. You can find these collections on the internet and in stores such as Target.
Lady Bug Theme
Another great idea for your nursery is the lady bug theme. While an absolutely adorable theme, there is a possibility that the red, black, and white that usually forms the color scheme might be too stimulating for your daughter’s resting place. To counter this, try to avoid highly contrasting designs or large patches of black and red (no giant ladybugs!). If you do choose this theme, you can do a lot of the decorating yourself – buy a ladybug bedding set, and use stencils to decorate the walls.
]]>
Various Character Themes
There are a variety of great character themes that will make a wonderful choice in the you little girl’s new room. Options include Winnie the Pooh, Precious Moments, Disney Princess, Mickey Sweet Dreams, Hello Kitty, or even Snoopy. There are so many great character themes that you can find, so you’ll be sure to find the perfect one for your new sweetheart.
Princess Theme
The princess theme is understandably very popular for baby girls. No doubt she’ll be your little princess, so why not carry out the theme in her room? You can find beautiful princess themed bedding, furniture, accessories and more. It’s very easy to decorate the nursery in this theme, and you can paint murals or borders on the walls that will go along with the theme as well. Consider even making the room like a castle, complete with everything you can imagine in the princess theme. No doubt this will be a room that everyone, especially your new baby girl, will end up loving.
Patchwork and Plaid Themes
Patchwork themes and plaid themes are also great ideas when you are decorating for a baby girl. Simply pick out a color that you want to go with, and then you can use accenting colors to go along with it. Painting the room will be simple, since you should be able to easily match the colors with paint. There are many great themes of this style to choose from and you can easily find them on the internet.
Celestial Themes
Going with a celestial theme for your baby girl nursery is a wonderful idea and it’s very easy to find great baby bedding in these themes. You’ll be able to send your baby to dreamland with ease when you use this type of a theme. Some ideas include constellations, moons, planets, the sun, stars, and other things you’ll find in the heavens. Whites, pastels, and blues are great colors to use for these types of themes. This is one of the few themes that you will want to seriously consider decoration the ceiling, either with paint or glow in the dark stars (be mindful of safety precautions). There are many great wall decorations and bedding choices available in this theme, so you’ll easily end up falling in love with a celestial nursery to welcome your new baby girl into the world.
As you can see, there are definitely a variety of great themes available when it comes to choosing a nursery theme. With so many to choose from, it can be difficult to make a choice – just let your eyes and heart guide you. If you are planning to have more children, you might want to consider a gender-neutral theme that can be re-used. If the nursery will become your daughter’s room as she grows up, think about going with a theme that she can continue to enjoy as she grows older. Take your time, consider your baby girl, and consider one of these great themes.

The Benefits Of Organic Gardening
More farmers are shifting to organic gardening since it’s very much less dangerous for people to consume. In fact, those who would like to produce their personal garden at house can do a similar thing by following the very same basics.
First, organic gardening doesn’t implement any fertilizers, nutrients or pesticides to make excellent quality crops. You can say that this procedure merely lets nature take its course since you count only on natural materials and rain water instead of tap water.
Any time we refer to natural supplies, one way would be to begin a compost heap by utilizing vegetables and other waste food. You can also add grass that has been cut by the lawnmower and then combined together and spread throughout the garden to help your plants to grow.
Another source of natural fertilizer is using maure. This can be purchased at your home and garden centers or you can order it by the truck load at soil centers
Believe it or not, earthworms are also useful in cultivating the soil so your vegetables or fruits might grow. This is since worms dig deep into the ground and aerate the soil. The aerated soil has higher oxygen levels and provides better drainage The worm excrement also acts as a great fertilizer that professionals say is five times richer in nitrogen, phosphorous and potassium than other fertilizers
]]>
In any garden, the one factor you need to deal with is unwanted pests. This is the reason that pesticide sprays were developed but simply because they’re damaging to humans, organic gardening has to be accomplished with the assist of some of nature’s close friends.
A excellent example is really a toad simply because they’re known to eat a lot more than 10,000 insects in three month’s time. These contain armyworms, crickets, gypsy moth caterpillars, slugs and squash bugs. You could also use birds like the house wren that loves to feed on caterpillars and spiders.
The very finest part about having toads or birds close to is that you simply really don’t must purchase them. You just must generate the ideal environment to welcome them into your backyard.
Actually some back garden insects which you think are bad are in fact working for you. Take for instance the ladybug or the praying mantis. These creatures are protective of their territory and will devour anything that comes in their path. Ladybugs are especially useful in controlling aphids
Some plants can also be utilized to control the pest population. Planting some rosemary, sage or thyme continues to be recognized to repel butterflies whilst marigolds are an effective deterrent against nematodes. Chrysanthemums also contain a precursor, pyrethrin and can be planted amougst your plants to deter insects
But by far the most effective means of growing organic and natural plants all year round is via crop rotation. This means you rotate what you’re growing every couple of months.
By following such principles, you’ll understand that most of the leftover food after every meal and other garbage in your home does not go to waste. By including composting to your every day routine, you may be reducing the waste that contributes to the landfills and creating organic soil to put back into your garden.

7 Homemade Kids Halloween Costume Ideas
When it comes to Halloween costumes, we always decided to make our own because we felt it was foolish to spend and up, for a costume that our child was only going to wear one time. Over the years, my sister-in-law and I have made numerous costumes for our children and I thought I would share a few simple ideas with you.
If you are concerned about safety, I recommend purchasing some reflective material patches at your local fabric and crafts store, and sew or glue them onto your child’s costume. This safety measure will help car drivers to see them at night as they are crossing the street. I always recommend that a responsible adult accompany children on Trick or Treat night.
Here are the Halloween costume ideas we came up with over the years.
Lady Bug – You will need: red leotard, red tights, 4 sheets of black felt and fabric glue. Cut out some circles and ovals from the felt and glue onto the red leotard so that it looks like lady bug spots. To make antennae, purchase a black headband, 2 round 3″ diameter Styrofoam balls, 2 pencils, black acrylic paint and gorilla glue. Paint the Styrofoam balls and pencils black and let dry. Glue pencils to the center of the Styrofoam balls, let dry and then glue the pencils to the top of the head band.
Note: You could use the same concept above and do a bumble bee and substitute the red clothing items with yellow clothing items and make black felt bee-style stripes.
]]>
Construction Worker – You will need: denim blue jeans, white T-shirt, flannel shirt and a yellow plastic hard hat found at a discount toy store. You can borrow a man’s tool belt or purchase a canvas-style apron with pockets at a local craft store for a few dollars. If desired, visit your local dollar discount store and purchase a plastic tool set to stick into the pockets of the tool belt.
Golfer – You will need: khaki colored pants, polo-style shirt and a plaid golfers cap. You can purchase plastic golf clubs and balls at your local dollar discount store. We made our own golf bag by emptying out a large round cardboard tube and painting it with acrylic paints. Punch a hole in each side of the tube and attach twine for a carrying strap. You can fit 3-4 plastic golf clubs into the holder and have your child carry it over their shoulder.
Nurse – You will need: white skirt, shirt, tights and shoes which your child most likely already has in her closet. To add to that, purchase a child’s size nurses cap at a costume store along with a plastic doctor’s kit at your local dollar discount store. We also accented the white shirt with a name badge and a red felt first-aid cross that we hand drew and safety pinned to the shirt.
Mummy – You will need: white clothing, white ski mask, white sneakers, several rolls of white first aid bandages and numerous safety pins. We cut the bandages into 12-24″ lengths and safety pinned them around the legs, arms and abdomen of the outfit. We chose to use fabric glue to attach them to the white ski mask. If you are making this costume for a small child, then I recommend using non-toxic fabric glue instead of the safety pins.
Black Spider – You will need: black jeans, black sweatshirt, 2 pairs of black little girls tights, 1 bag of fiberfill stuffing, black thread. You need to cut the panty portion off of the tights and just use the legs. Stuff each leg firmly with fiberfill and then sew the end shut with thread. Do this for a total of 4 spider legs. You will want to hand sew (or machine sew) the stuffed legs onto the sides of the black sweatshirt about 4-5″ below the sweatshirt arm. If desired, you can paint the child’s face black or lime green with face paints.
Crayon – You will need: your choice of colored clothing, we selected orange to fit with the Halloween theme, along with several sheets of black felt, fabric glue and a black fabric paint. Grab one of your child’s crayons and use it as an example on how you should cut out designs from your black felt. Attach those designs onto the clothing items so that it resembles a crayon. You can use the black fabric paint to paint on the crayon-makers name on the front of the shirt. To further fit with our theme, we machine sewn a triangular hat out of matching orange felt, so that ‘our’ little crayon had a pointy crayon top.

Ladybird Beetles, Friends of the Gardener, Offer Natural Control of Aphids
Ladybird, ladybird, fly away home…Its an old nursery rhyme that most of us are familiar with. But not everyone knows how truly beneficial the Ladybird Beetle (or Ladybug, as the species is called here in North America) is in the garden. To be sure, large numbers of them can be a nuisance, especially in the spring when they tend to congregate on the sunny side of a building shortly after coming out of hibernation. Or in the Autumn, when they are looking for quarters in which to hibernate and end up wandering into buildings. They can also be a problem if they taint wine grapes. In these cases, control may be warranted. But, in the long run, it is better to have them around to protect your roses, birches, crape myrtles and other plants that are susceptible to aphid infestation and damage.
Both the adult and the larvae of Ladybird Beetles are voracious consumers of aphids. If given the opportunity, they are capable of making short work of any aphid infestation.
If you plan to use these beneficial insects in your garden try to enlist the cooperation of your neighbors. By this I mean get them to do the same. When you purchase Ladybugs from your local garden supply store, they have usually been kept in cool temperatures, as if in hibernation, and their first instinct will be to fly, mate and disperse to lay their eggs. If you are the only gardener releasing them, you may lose most of your new assistants. However, if your neighbors also do a release at the same time, you will all benefit from the increase in the Ladybug population. When using these beetles as a natural means of aphid control, be sure that you are not using insecticides that may affect them.
Immediately after dispersing, the adult females will go to work feeding on aphids, scales and other sucking insects. They will also lay large numbers of eggs and the emerging larvae will also begin feeding. Within a few short weeks they will have eliminated the majority of your aphid population. Each year I experience this miracle, without having to introduce any Ladybird Beetles, because I already have a large, native population in my yard. It’s a pleasure not to have to worry about aphids and just let nature take her course. There are, of course, times when you may have to treat your plants with insecticides to control aphids. At those times I recommend the use of a systemic insecticide because systemics, when properly applied by a licensed, trained professional, have the least chance of adversely affecting the environment, or beneficials, such as the Ladybird Beetle.

Pillow Pals Review – Buy As Seen On TV Pillow Pets Online
Pillow Pals are cute, huggable pets that pop open into full size pillows. As Seen On TV Pillow Pals (also known as Pillow Pets) have been featured on nationwide television and make perfect gifts for children.
Pilow Pals combine the security of a stuffed animal with the functionality of a pillow for your child. These AsSeenonTV PillowPets are made of high quality, super soft chenille so they are super soft for your child to snuggle with. As a result, PillowPals make for an ideal naptime companion as well as providing your child with comfort on long road trips or during airplane rides with the family.
Pillow Pets transform from plush stuffed animals into a pillow and vice versa with the use of a strap that closes underneath the Pillow Pet. Simply open the strap and the Pillow Pal easily tranforms from stuff animal pet to pillow and back again. There are several Pillow Pals to choose from including the Buzzy Bumble Bee Pillow Pet, Chocolate Moose Pet, the Comfy Bunny and Comfy Panda Pillow Pals, Cozy Cow, Cowardly Lion, Fiery Dalmation, Friendly Frog, Hungry Hippo, Leaping Leopard, Lovable Lamb, Magical Unicorn, Mr.Bear, Ms Lady Bug, Perky Penguin, Polar Bear, Puffy Duck, Silly Monkey, Sir Horse, Snuggly Puppy, Splashy Whale, Squeaky Dolphin, Tardy Turtle and Wiggly Pig Pillow Pals.
The Magical Unicorn Pillow Pal along with the Squeaky Dolphin, Ms Lady Bug and Snuggly Puppy Pillow Pets are the most popular choices of children. There are also new Pillow Pets constanlty being created including new Giraffe, Tiger and Aligator PillowPals.
